    Fix iPhone 3G back scratches!

Who the hell cares? I have a 16Gb white that I only put a screen protector on, I don't ever plan on using a case. It's a phone...it's unbelievable what a cottage industry has grown over all these cases/skins...it's just a phone. Keep repeating that and you'll be fine. I guess if you plan on...

    3G has terrible signal

Please explain how the signal bars on the phone don't matter when it leads to dropped calls, calls going to voice mail and other issues to the HUNDREDS of people WORLDWIDE posting in these threads: 200+ posts - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7633045 27 Pages -...

You think battery life is bad now? Wait for background notifications!

That's fine and dandy but that is not what 'persistent' data connection means. Persistent means the connection is kept alive at all times. Also Cingular/AT&T's wap.cingular access point (used on iPhone) assigns you a NAT'd internal IP behind their firewall. There is no way for you or anybody...

You think battery life is bad now? Wait for background notifications!

Right but in order for this to work, it creates a persistent data connection to Apple's servers. This is similar to push which everyone knows impacts battery life. I'm just making sure people are aware this is an additional drain that is not active yet.

You think battery life is bad now? Wait for background notifications!

"A persistent background connection will automatically relay information from a developer's servers to Apple, and in turn to the iPhone or iPod touch application itself, allowing any program to continue receiving data while inactive."...

    Apple.com iPhone availability checker

You're best bet is any of the NYC stores. A friend just walked by 14th st and the guy told him they have plenty. The best bet is the one on Fifth Ave since they're open 24 hours. Just drive into Manhattan at like 3am or something, go pick it up and be done.

    discounts and Apple store?

Yes, I believe it's true. A friend of mine went to an Apple store and they have a FAN discount on their AT&T plan so they had to go to an AT&T store to get an iPhone. My recommendation is to call AT&T, have them remove the FAN discount from your plan. Go to Apple, get a new iPhone 3G. Then call...

What you may not know about AT&T 3G...

Surprisingly very easy to use. I prefer it over the N95-4 I had briefly before because the keys are spaced close together so unless you have claws for hands it's more comfortable for texting. I came from a BB Qwerty to a iPhone Qwerty to the N78 T9 and within a few days I was almost as fast...

What you may not know about AT&T 3G...

:D Yes I still think Safari on iPhone is the best browser by far and is the "killer app" for Apple right now but honestly it's not enough for me. I actually prefer Opera Mini 4.1 on my N78 and on 3G the thing loads most full sites in 2-3 seconds flat. The new version supports finding text in...

What you may not know about AT&T 3G...

Now that I've had a HSDPA capable handset on AT&T for over a week I can tell you 3G isn't the savior it's made out to be...here is why: - 3G coverage is excellent where I live but sometimes my phone will still drop down to EDGE/GPRS and there's no way to bring it back to 3G manually. Based on...

How to get an iPhone 3G for free (not a joke)

I honestly wouldn't rely on what a couple of online AT&T reps say...they know probably less than we do. I doubt if you buy a new phone today and sign a 2-yr contract, you can buy an iPhone 3G for the upgrade pricing...I'd be shocked if you could since every AT&T release has said otherwise. I...

Found! Coolest app that Apple/AT&T would never allow on iPhone

Yes, can be 3G or EDGE. Not just at home..ANYWHERE which is the real draw. I no longer need to worry about finding a WiFi spot for my laptop when traveling..I just bring my own :D Also since the phone acts as a router essentially (you get a NAT address such as 192.168.1.10 or something) AT&T...

Found! Coolest app that Apple/AT&T would never allow on iPhone

So I had an iPhone for a year and I didn't know this type even existed nor do I think Apple/AT&T would ever allow something like this on the iPhone 3G but for me this has to be one of the coolest apps ever - AND IT'S FREE! It's called JoikuSpot Light and it's for the Symbian 60 (S60) OS. I just...

    What Apps Are You Getting...?

Finally, another SplashID fan :D I had the original one for Palm years ago and although the product has hardly improved over the years for some reason I like it. I had the BB version for the last few years and just purchased the Symbian version for my Nokia. I know they mentioned they were...

Is it full GPS or not

Another example of this whole argument people have that says "But a 3rd party app will provide functionality xyz" Both Blackberry and Nokia now ship Maps software on their devices with full voice guided navigation, traffic info, etc. This is separate from google maps. i.e. My new Nokia came...
