first problems noticed: battery life and voice mail

definitely noticed the sleeping computer thing, but it's not turning off the Wifi, but switching off the option to have it automatically ask to join connections. That's what killed my battery life. I've since turned that off and the standby time is now what appears to be normal. Thanks! Dave

Post your model # and any issues with your iPhone.

hey Kev, Just checking on the short battery life... are you using WiFi and if so, did you leave it checked to automatically ask to join networks? That was the problem for me and now I get very good battery life. Turn that switch off. It's on by default. dave

ok... so the WiFi was definitely the culprit. I switched it to NOT check for WiFi connections automatically, and now my battery doesn't drain overnight. Dave

WiFi not recognized-can only use EDGE?

so here's the deal: I can see other public WiFi spots and the proper icon will show up in the status bar-but the signal is complete crap.I log in to my home WiFi, put in the password, it gets accepted, and the E icon shows up in the status bar.If I go to settings, it says that WiFi is on and...

is there a way to count SMS messages?

since we're only allowed 200, I'd like to know how many I've used. I'm also curious if this counts for incoming as well as outgoing messages. Dave

heya... you might be right about the WiFi because they say standby in "normal" conditions is upwards of 250 hours... VERY annoying that this is the case, but check it out at http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html "Standby Time: ...All settings were default except: Call Forwarding was...

first problems noticed: battery life and voice mail

well that's just it. I left the adaptor unplugged this time. The other night I plugged it in but shut down my computer, expecting it to charge just like my iPod does... well, it doesn't and you have to leave it on to charge... stupid maneuver on Apples part for that one, but whatever.

    Low volume solution...

well, it has that plastic on it, like they put on everything. My Mac Pro had these giant sheets of it when I got that too. although, if yours didn't have any plastic on it at all, I would question that situation. dt

interesting that you mention I left the WiFi on? I have WiFi in the house. Could that really drain the battery, even if the phone is on standby? Dave

    Low volume solution...

well, I also got the Speck toughskin case for it, so that plastic tucks under there nicely. I have on corner that sometimes comes off a bit on that plastic, but I can just rub down on it and it seems to stick right back on. Dave

    Low volume solution...

personally, I left just the part that goes over the main screen on there until I get some shields. Apple was sold out on those when I went to get my phone.

first problems noticed: battery life and voice mail

so, I got my first bad voice mail the other day. I play it back and it sounds like I'm fast-forwarding through it. Hopefully that was a fluke. I'm saving that VM and I'm going to play it to an Apple Genius as soon as I can get out to a store. I also noticed really poor battery life. My phone...

    Low volume solution...

yeah, I did that too, but I still feel that the volume is too low in some instances. The iPod part of the phone is super loud, but the phone calls are often very soft. Dave

Here's what I'm seeing I need for 1st round updates

I am finding that keyboard recognition can come and go. They say that one of the features is fixing words like don't and you're, but if I mess up and go back, it doesn't fix it for me. I find too that If I want to do some alternate spelling, it really forces me to do something I don't want and I...

Here's what I'm seeing I need for 1st round updates

thanks for the game tip! It's possible mine only gets hot when charging. NOTE--anyone trying to charge overnight via USB-you have to keep your computer on... kinda stinks because I like to save that energy overnight-and just saw this on the Apple site now and was planning on heading out but...

Here's what I'm seeing I need for 1st round updates

I posted this at the Apple site too, so hopefully somebody's peeking in, but my guess it that someone on the inside probably has these on the short list too: -synching to notes so I can upload shopping lists and such -RULES FOR MAIL... I don't appear to be able to filter junk mail, or stop a...

    $99/month to use WiFi?

nope.. no joking. I just got in to the AT&T site for a second. It was the bottom data plan. It was the only one that offered WiFi. I see they've shut it off again, but check out http://www.looprumors.com/ That takes you to the AT&T site Dave

OUCH... anyone see this on the AT&T site? Is this really the only way to use WiFi on the iPhone?
