It is very feasible to send this many texts, just not customary. Some people send the same text to 100 people at a time. This counts as 100 individual texts but in theory it is just one. I've had months that I've sent well over 10,000 texts but I typically average about 5,000.

Wow - that's some text going out from your iPhone. I sent and receive lots of mails, but never more than 40-60 SMS at month...and I'm on free SMS level. But you're right about these mass text messages to 100's at a time - then 14.000 doesn't sounds that bad! But I'll guess the girl in this case broke up with her boyfriend and needed some advise from several friends...or something like that..

Dang. Several? How about dozens. Crazy teenage girls. At least they had an unlimited plan. That would've been a bit more painful.

Well... that does include incoming sms as well... ;)

Plus you can get your AIM/Yahoo IM messages forwarded to your phone as well.

14.528 is an insane amount... but I gotta wonder just how many are actually outgoing messages.

I read that too, and as soon as I saw the number, I thought, "I just bet someone at EIC has done more..."

Come on EIC, make me proud!

I don't SMS.

The majority of the messages could be from Twitter also. You can set Twitter up to send you an SMS any time anyone you're following posts to Twitter. When I had it set up that way I was getting around 100-200 a day.

So if she's following a ton of people on Twitter then it could be several hundred messages a day.

Although it didn't cost him anything, Mr. Hardesty has clamped down on his daughter's text message habits. He says that she is no longer allowed to send texts after dinner time.
Well I'm not a huge texter but it seems like with that many she is probably texting DURING school.

My friend was telling me about this last night. She said that apparently the father is a bit of a mobile phone addict too.
Mr Hardesty admits he himself sends 900 messages a month – 700 more than average for his age group, the paper reported.

My son sent 13,879 a couple of months ago....
That was done during the school year, so his phone was at home from 7:00am until 4:00pm. Then he gives his phone to his mother before 10:00 pm on week nights.

Figure out how many texts per min that adds up to!

Since then I've had to intervene and the numbers are much more reasonable now.

I have a family friend who has 5 daughters, the youngest is 16 or so. 4 of the daughters are on their cell plan and all average close to 20,000 texts a month. Their cell phone bill comes in an enormous box every month.

I don't get the point! How can 4 teenager send 80.000 messages in one (1) month!...I must say they are typing very fast..

Don't forget,
Your number of texts also includes incoming. My son often sends texts to "groups" of friends, then they all start to reply.......
That's how the snowball begins to roll!

You should see how fast he types!
He sends all these texts on a Samsung slider phone that has a regular numeric pad for texting!

For at least one of the daughters the 20k is strictly outgoing. I've seen the count on her phone. The other 3 I cannot speak for.

And to think, I only have the 1500 per month plan...I wonder if everyone sent texts less if 3g would be faster...?
