Has anybody tried to jailbreak the 3.1 beta yet? When i was running the 3.0 firmware, i ran purplera1n and id did its thing in a few minutes and rebooted.

Ive just tried it on 3.1 and the phone is stuck in restore mode? Any ideas? Maybe Apple have killed the purplera1n option?

forgive me for being unsure but by 'stuck in restore mode' - could you elaborate a little. Is this DFU mode?

ha, sorry, posted that in a rush as i was panicking. Ok, as a beta tester you have the purple "plug into iTunes" restore screen. That is what im stuck on. When i plug into iTunes it says phone in recovery mode, you need to restore.

This never happened with 3.0 and purplera1n, just wondering has anyone 3.1 jailbroken? Im having to restore to 3.1 beta now, but as im restoring im presuming this will kill the jailbreak purplera1n has just done?

i assume also that this is with the 3G NOT the 3GS?

Restore and try it again, at least you know that your phone's OS wont be corrupt. It's the safest way, then re-try doing what you did previously.

Nope, its the 3GS. Trying to restore and now getting an iTunes 3004 error. I hope Apple cant "kill" an iPhone if its been jailbroke?

I've just been on Apple's website and i can't find the meaning of the error. I'm pickled here.

Is it literally stuck at the purple screen with the connect to iTunes logo on?

Can you perform a hard-reset by holding the home & power buttons?

Yup, stuck on that screen. When i try a reset it just switches on to that screen. Im trying any time of restore i know, and when iTunes tries to validate my restore it says error 3004. Im guessing its something Apple are saying my phone isn't valid for a restore. Hope they haven't put something in where threy have detected my phone was jailbroke and killed it?

You think that could be possible?

Thank God! It worked - although it took considerably longer. Im so happy! ha.

Basically the first error let me know my iTunes was out of date. As im at work im on an XP machine, and although iTunes said there was no update from 8.2 available, if you delete and reinstall iTunes it installs 8.2.23 which is needed to restore following urplera1n.

Second, i got the iTunes error 1015 - which was because my iTunes was trying to restore to 3.0.As a beta tester of 3.1 you cant downgrade because of the baseband mismatch. I had to shift restore to 3.1 and it restored to a new phone.

Hopefully if anyone else has this problem this will help them! Cheers for your input IPW :)

Also for info from gsmarena.com...

PurpleRa1n, the utility made by Geohot works on only iPhone 3GS devices running firmware version 3.0. Apple have seemingly closed the vulnerability used in the 3.1 firmware, so if you've got your hands on the beta of the new 3.1, you shouldn't really use it.

You can downgrade from 3.1 beta to 3.0 - you just keep the 3.1 baseband. When you get the 1015 error, if you're on Windows, open QuickPwn and follow the instructions for restarting your iPhone. Don't run the rest of QuickPwn, just that opening dialog.

I thought the problem lay with the baseband though? If i downgrade to 3.0 and try and run purplera1n again to jailbreak the baseband will not let it happen?

I phrased that wrong in my original post, I meant you cant downgrade to 3.0 for the purposes of JB'ing

Yes, you can. I downgraded from 3.1 beta to 3.0 then jailbroke with purplera1n with no problem. You just can't unlock 3.0 with the 3.1 baseband.

Instead of using quickpwn...when you get error 1015 (unable to downgrade baseband) use purplera1n. Kill 2 birds with one stone. Purple rain needs to be in recovery mode, so it just doesn't perform that step and in the end jailbreaks and reboots the phone.
