My wife's phone cannot find service with the new 3.1 update and freezes up every time I go into settings. Anyone else having this problem?

If these problems don't resolve with a reboot, a restore will be necessary.

After restore still no service or spotty service and some calls go straight to VM.

Are you setting it up as a New iPhone or are you doing Restore From Backup? You'll want to select New iPhone in the setup if you're not already. Try that. If it's still not working, try pulling the SIM and putting it into another phone, see if it gets service. Reinsert the SIM. Any service now?

Sim works in other iPhone but not mine and I refuse to restore from new because then I have to reset everything. PLus, phone was working fine until now.

I don't know what else to tell you then. You're going to have to restore it as a New iPhone, or you most likely won't have a working phone. The ONLY other thing that you can possibly do short of restoring is going into Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings/Reset Network Settings.

If those don't work, I'm afraid restore + set up as New iPhone is what you're going to have to do if you want a functional phone.

Good luck!

Now it just magically is working again without a restore. Weird

Well my wife's phone has a full 3G signal and just won't send texts or make calls and I have restored it three times.

Are you restoring to factory settings or from back up?
Have you tried resetting the network settings?

Restored from "new" twice already and have reset the network setting. Still not working.
