I have had all 5 iPhones. I have noticed since day 1 with my 4S that when I shut the phone down and restart it that it takes a full minute of "searching" before I get any bars. This happens no matter where I am. No big deal signal strength is good call quality is great. Just a little annoying waiting for a signal.

I will have to check, but I can't say as mine takes a full minute. It can take upwards of 15-20 seconds. Will have to try it again and time it better.

My 4S took all of a couple of seconds for the ATT bars to show up. Of course I have a passcode, but that only takes a couple of seconds to enter. This is surprising because I'm way out in the sticks and our coverage is poor to say the least.

P.S. This is from a shutdown, not just a wake up.

I have the same long wait for signal acquisition on Edge. I'm thinking it's because of the dual mode now. I don't know if it's any faster on 3G, I haven't been to a 3G location with it yet.
