I was just reading on modmyi that they recommend resetting all settings before jailbreaking and then restoring the backup after the jailbreak is complete. The rationale is that Absinthe creates a backup of the phone and restores it onto the device to install the jailbreak code, and that this is better and faster to do this on a device that is mostly empty. It seems to me that the time you save by doing it this way would be lost when you restore from backup after the jailbreak.

I'd like to hear some feedback on this based on your experience.

1.Did you erase all settings first? If not, about how much space was currently being utilized?
2.About how long did the jailbreak process take?
3.Did you use a Mac or PC?
4.Did the jailbreak work on the first attempt?

Just jailbroke mine on a Mac. It took 7 minutes and worked the first time. I didn't reset all settings.

Did you erase all settings first? What version of Absinthe did you use? I thought you had already jailbroken. On v. 0.2 on both Mac and Windows it kept stalling after about 1/4 of the bar. I will try again later and report back. And/or try v. 0.1.2-2.

Just exactly what settings and preferences are reset during Reset All Settings. I just tried both v. 0.2 and v. 0.1.2-2 on Mac and still am getting stalled. I have rebooted, hard reset and am about at wits end! Well, not really, but it is aggravating. :(

All I did was create a backup.
It took about a half an hour, mainly due to me letting the white screen sit a while to see what would happen.
I used my new iMac.
Jailbreak took first time around and I've been playing with it ever since!

I didn't reset settings or do anything extra before installing (had a pretty recent iTunes backup already).

Ran it on an iPhone 4S with around 16GB used of 32GB.

Took around 8 minutes for jailbreak process to complete and around another 8 for Cydia to run all of its updates.

Did it on a Mac.

Worked first time.

I didn't reset my settings either, took about 40 minutes, had the VPN problem but that's about it. Backed my phone up before I started.

I decided not to Jailbreak. I didn't care much for my Jailbreak on the iPhone 4. I had problems with lagging issues and respringing. As the iOS keeps improving with each upgrade, jailbreaking is losing more of its appeal to me. But that is just me. I'm happy for the jailbreaking community. :)

EDIT: I changed my mind and JB my iPhone 4S. The motivation was when i learned of some neat Siri apps and their features. So far it is working like a charm. I'm glad I did.

Did not erase or reset, took about 10 min (after spending 40 min trying to figure out what I was doing wrong).
Toshiba satellite with windows vista, had the white icons and non-playing tracks, but it's all good now.

(also, when using the Windows version of Absinthe, if it doesn't work the first time, then after it tells you to go to the phone and run the app, but before you run it, unplug the phone from the computer. With mine at least it wouldn't restart until I did that.)

Tried on windows & it failed. Won't let me retry. I have a 16gb that's maybe half full. Wiping everything & all that crap doesn't seem worth it. May try on my other laptop.
