My email was working great on Edge and on WiFi. I had one profile setup and it worked on both connections. Today I have not been able to send emails over WiFi and have trouble getting email on both.

I am getting an error message that says "The connection to the server "smtp.comcast.net" failed"

I also have a new icon near the battery, it looks something like this

I've searched the forum. When I was originally setting the email up I came across a post that described something other than the smpt.comcast.net for the outgoing.

"The connection to the server "smtp.comcast.net" failed" would be a comcast mail server issue. try back later. Unless Edge signal is weak or lost or your home network is down then you will get that message when sending.

I'm having the exact same comcast problems

I have my iPhone synced to both my Apple Mail account and my comcast account. Until last night, everything was working perfectly. Now, I cannot send a comcast email, although I am still receiving them.
I can both send and receive from my Apple Mail account, and I can send and receive comcast email from my desktop computer.
Very aggravating... I've already wasted 2 hours this morning trying to figure out the problem, including deleting and re-creating my comcast account on my iPhone.
Anyone have any thoughts?

It is working from you desktop because the comcast mail servers can see that you are a customer since the requests to the mail server are coming from a comcast IP. When you are on the EDGE network your request are coming from a AT&T ip. You can receive just fine cause because the only security from receiving is user name and pass.

Sending is different because the ISP's don't want they mail servers to be used to replay spam. The problem is somewhere in your outgoing mail settings.

But I'm sitting here in my home network... not Edge... to try to get things to work. Edge should have no bearing on these issues.

If you are on your home wi-fi, try removing the username and pass from the outgoing mail server settings and see if it works. Doing this was the fix for some of the RoadRunner issues.
