Yeah it appears as though the new iPhone screen will be taller in height. I am most concerned with how this might effect the aspect ratio. Does anyone have similar concerns?

I'm pretty sure old apps that define a size will be letterboxed such as games, otherwise as long as they use the Apple GUI already, it should fit the new screen size automatically. The same applied to a lot of apps that had no need to update for the retina display a couple years ago.

I hope that is the case. If it is true than my apps should be just fine. I have my fingers crossed!

Absolutely! I wouldn't fret, the latest devices have *always* been backwards compatible! ^^
