Have no Idea why my Tilt operates at 850kbps and iPhone's at 400kbps?
Faulty hardware? Software?..Battery Concern?...(This battery isn't much better than Tilt)
Thanks

I've been staying steady at around 1.45mbps in Miami. Download speed.

Upload has been around 700 if I recall.

mine is constantly between 400 and 500 too. Very disappointing. My Nokia n95-4 is consistently 750 Kbps and gets up to 1.2 Mbps. Not sure what the deal is but it's dissapointing.

this maybe a stupid question but how are you telling what speeds the iPhone 3g are runnning at.

3g is not capped, it depends on the bandwidtch allocated to your area. Some areas have good bandwidth allocation like mine (1.1mb/s max) some arent.

Funny, I downloaded the native app iNetwork Test and got 40.699 KB/sec on 3G.

Then, I went to the web version of iNetwork Test and got a 407 kbps!

Should I be moving the decimal to the right on the native app? :laugh2:

there are a few websites out there designed to test the iPhone's internet. Hell, you can use cnet's internet speed test too. The app store also has a few .99 programs that you can download to test the speeds.

In the Chicago area, I haven't gotten anything over 600kbps on 3G. But thats a hell of a lot faster than the 40kbps that I was running on average with EDGE....

Is the Tilt on the same network in the same area at the same time?

I'm seriously planning on asking AT&T for a credit based on lack of reliable 3G. I'm paying for for high speed internet, the same or more for anyone else using other phones on the same network. Often it's no faster than EDGE. Refund.

BS
Again...Same area: Tilt: 850kbps....iPhone: 350kbps.
Asking what the deal is with that.

There are 8 kb (kilobits) in a KB (kilobyte) so... rough estimate.... yes, that will work.

In Fayetteville, NC I'm getting 1.32Mbps, 1320kbps. Although last night when I tried the speed test, it was only 100kbps. Network volume, I suppose

my suggestion is to not go by network speed test, go by real world performance. I regular get edge speed speed tests but actual page loading is generally 2x as fast. I also find that the real speed inhibitor is the phones processor. Although I have 30mbit/s Internet, the phone only loads a few seconds faster than 3g.

Getting 300-400kbps on 3G (but only 400-600kbps on Wi-Fi), so not so bad.
