Maybe it's because I'm so used to wifi on my iPod touch and this is my first iPhone, but I am pretty disappointed by how sluggish it is.

It entirely depends on your location and carrier. Lots of areas have 5+ Mbps AT&T 3G.

3G is not like wireless at home. It sometimes bumps 4-5 mb (with AT&T) depending on your location but it will not be as fast as your wireless at home. Now when they put out a 4G or LTE iPhone then if you have that in your area you can get 12-22 mb speed much quicker. Thats what I am waiting for on the next iPhone. I didn't get the 4S so I can get the next version when it is released.

i totally agree with you on this. i'm on sprint and sometimes the 3g can be horrible and sometimes it can be blazingly fast. not only do i see i difference in location but sometimes even the time of day seems to make a diff. now 4g just always seems fast. even faster than my home wifi. but that's a problem too cause it's not everywere yet:(
