Hawk, do you think an iOS update could fix it?
I think it's very possible, if not probable- provided that iPod function is available at all through the lightning port.
My guess is that Apple "disabled" it till "authorized" (paid to be Apple approved) manufacturers have compatible devices with lightning docks.
Unfortunately, I don't see anything changing any time soon unless the public outcry gets loud fast, and even then, I don't think it will change for most devices.

It works fine with cases with a wide opening at the bottom, such as the one in the picture below, but you'll want to go with the 0.2 m adapter if the bottom cutout on the case isn't very big.

If I was going to spend 40 dollars on the adapter I would just buy two lightning cables lol

Well my car stereo is what I was most concerned with and it has a USB port. I sold my alarm clock dock like yours. If I buy another one I will just find one that has Bluetooth or a USB port.

Yeah, you won't need one then. I'm using a regular Lightning cable in my car with the USB port, but I just wanted to test it with an old 30 pin cable and the adapter just to make sure it worked with stereo audio and charging, and it did.

Well I did order some 3rd party adapters to at least use for charging. Really hoping they surprise me and somehow work like the Apple ones

Ok, after a call to Apple Support and testing with other devices, it seems that the lightning connector ONLY supports charging and SIMPLE analog audio out. Anything that has higher functions, such as music control, will not work at all.
So 2 of my 4 main devices are useless. Well, my alarm clock still works and can charge my phone, but no more music or Netflix.
After doing some testing, I can assure you this isn't true. My music controls still work on my head unit in the car and my alarm clock/dock. They sound and function exactly as they did with the 30 pin connector.

Well my alarm clock and griffin auto pilot do not work. They charge, but no music or control

I just meant that what they told you must be incorrect since music controls is working fine on some devices.
