Nowhere in the article does it mention "saying bad things about AT&T"

Unfortunately most people won't care. Something put in the TOS to protect a company is automaticly "big businesss trying to screw the customer and rob me of my freedom of speech!" Get a grip folks!

Look at it from AT&T's side....

"Well, there's nothing in the TOS that specifically SAYS that I can't post _______(bomb plans, snuff films, Nazi propaganda, kiddy porn, pirated software, stolen credit card and social security numbers, etc etc etc) so why did you cancel my account?"

It's a C.Y.A. clause. Either learn to live with it or go to a different carrier.

Lol, ooooh, tough guy. I'll learn, I promise!

Based on the actual wording it's possible that it is associated only with web accts, but still ... corporate paranoia.

Is it just me, or does that AT&T logo on that link, remind you of he Death Star of the Evil Empire in Star Wars? If so, interesting correlation, eh? :p

"AT&T may immediately terminate or suspend all or a portion of your Service.......for conduct that AT&T believes...(c) tends to damage the name or reputation of AT&T"

So anyway, I was at a family reunion last weekend, having a discussion with my uncle about cellphone service providers. I mentioned to him that I had AT&T, and that I sometimes had problems with their service.

A few minutes later, I wanted to make a phone call to my girlfriend. When I attempted to make a call, instead, my phone played a message telling me "Your cellphone service has been terminated for voilation of our TOS. Thank-you for doing businesss with AT&T. It was nice to know you"

Hahaha..just a joke, but kinda scary, huh?

"Big Brother is watching (and listening) to you" :p

I would hold off on giving this 100% validity. There has to be something to this...
There was an article in the news a month ago or so that talked about Verizon canceling "problem customers," i.e. customers that called their customer care center to complain about service issues.

It would be nice to see this challenged in court to get a definitive answer particularly on AT&T's right to do this given that they have a monopoly on iPhone usage, a piece of hardware we paid for, own, but can only use on AT&T (at least as designed/intended).

This strikes me as similar to a new smoking ordinance in Belmont, CA, that prohibits people from smoking in their own apartments, townhomes, and condos, with eviction being an enforceable action. Smoking in an apartment is one thing, but what about evicting someone from their own condo or townhome which they bought and own outright?

I predict, that by year 2015, it will be illegal to take a shower without wearing a "shower helmet" in the event of a fall. :p
