Today I had 3 hrs, 9 minutes of usage. No phone calls. Surfed my craigslist app for a while, surfed the net for a while, did some emailing, played a motocross game for a 5-10 minutes. WIFI on(not connected to WIFI), location services on, brightness around 30% auto brightness on.
Took it off the charger last night at 100%, turned it off. Turned it on this morning around 6:30 am, and just put it back on the charger at 54% battery left.
Pretty good I'd say.

Not too shabby, IMO. EDGE definitely saves the battery during the day. I had location services on the entire day. Bluetooth and WiFi off. Screen brightness about 35-40% and auto-brightness on.

I thought of the Power slider, but I really don't like the added thickness to the phone. That really seems unappealing enough that I wouldn't mind simply just plugging into a wall or computer if I got desperate enough...

I have one. And the mophie juice pack air. And prefer the air because of the switch on the bottom. The slider is a nicer case to me, but it only has a button for syncing. I would prefer to switch between the two on my own.

Yeah.... The idle battery life 3Gs drains faster than my V1 iPhone when I had my Wi-fi on, playing a game AND listening to the music at the same time. Hump me sideways

the battery life is definitely significantly shorter than the 3G.

I gotta wonder, where do they come up with these battery life statements? They're always wrong.
You got that right. My original iPhone and my 3G would last 3 days based on my Usage. I'm lucky to get 24 hours with the 3GS. I've been on with Support about it but they are no help. Telling me it's my usage patterns. I asked about how these were supposed to be longer lasting then the 3G he says they are.

Here's a question for you. When I'm home all day and my 3GS is on my network, does the 3G still drain? In other words should I turn off the 3G if I'm going to be around an internet connection all day?

Yep, I have definitely noticed faster battery drain with the same usage. On a good note I have signal in my workplace where I never had it before...hmmm.

BKushner - yes, 3G is still active because you still have to be open for calls.

Cloverfield - Location Services is basically the GPS portion of the phone (on the V1, it's cell triangulation) This is for the maps and any program that want to record your location, whether it be for game scores, geo-taged pictures, blogs, whatever.

Today I am going to run my battery down till it shuts off, and then tomorrow, run another test of average usage, still keeping it on Edge at the office unless I am outside.
Kinda wish I got get on the WiFi here at the office, but the iPhone doesn't have the security protocol I need to access it.

So what should we do ? I love the 3gs but the battery
thing is driving me nuts, I know I play games Ll day long
or online moat of the time with my wifi on, but c'mon , 3 hours
is stupid , I would love to be able to use the phone for longer
or if someone tells me what to do, I'll be happy to do it,
to extend my iPhone battery life, thanks

Turn off blue tooth
set mail to fetch (and fetch less frequently)
Turn wifi off
Turn location services off
Turn brightness down as low as you can stand it
If you have a VERY weak signal, this can drain battery quickly

If all your getting is 3 hours of usage...you may want to take it back to Apple.

I wonder if any of the battery issues could be from apps not being 100% compatible with 3.0/3GS. One of them might be getting stuck in memory and draining the battery.

How can I know or find out ? I mean if my battery is bad
and I yes I get less than 3 hours sometimes even
but as I said that's with wifi on, and online gaming.. Should I take it back still ?
And if my wifi off, I don't have 3g I have edge only
