I have the 3G and wanted to know if I could restart it, to "shake out the cobwebs." I noticed when I go to view my text messages or contacts it takes a few seconds to show. Suggestions?

Its easy, just hold the lock button until the slide to power off screen comes on, then hit the lock button again to power it back up.

This should be done at least once a week anyway. It is like a mini computer and needs to be powered down once in a while. You will get better performance.

Another way to "reboot". Just hold down the lock button and home button until you see the slide to reboot.. continue to hold them both until you see it reboot and the apply symbol comes up. At this time you can let go of both buttons.

This method works great when other method is not responding.
