I'm a Sprint customer and as you know, they don't carry the iPhone. Can the iPhone 3g be unlocked for Sprint?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by legal calling. You are not a retard.

if you jailbrake on a v1 iPhone then you can unlock it, if you are on a 3g iPhone then you can switch the icons and download some really cool apps.

I think what you are asking for is NOT possible. I don't think anyone here knows of a way to "legally" or otherwise get free calling. The closest thing is VOIP (voice over IP) and that still requires a phone plan from a company using the GSM network setup. In the US, 3G is currently only available with ATT.

If you can't afford a basic network plan, then perhaps a $300+ phone isn't for you. Just a thought.
