If you restored, then yes, it would overwrite your custom ipcc file. 3.5 is what beta 1 and beta 2 shipped with. You can shift + update the custom file again, if you need to to activate tethering, but the cellular data option does not work anymore.

Didn't work for me. I shift + updated and my carrier settings were still 5.0 and the field for cellular network data was still there, but if you selected it, it would crash to the spring board. I re updated the carrier file to the 5.0 version...same thing. I just restored beta 3 (restored from back up) and my carrier settings are 3.5, the cellular network data field is gone, but the tethering field is still there.

Apple unlocked tethering for everyone in beta 3, you don't need a special ipcc file to get it working anymore. MMS is also apparently working for almost everyone now too, including me.

Nope, I guess I'll try updating my carrier settings...

Ok that worked... update carrier settings, I can post the file I used if it's allowed.

Yeah if you were on beta 2 and had not used a file to actvate the tethering option and you updated rather than restored... The update will not overwrite your ipcc settings. Restoring does.

So then its not automatically included in beta 3.. its just those that "updated" from beta 2 who had it then have it in beta 3?

Not if you update, but it is if you restore. Restoring wipes the phone, puts the new os on and then you can restore from a back up to get your settings and user data back.

My problem is that I have restored numerous times, carrier settings are 3.5, but no tethering option. The only way I get that option is if update to the 5.0 carrier settings.
If its enabled in beta 3, why don't I have the option with a restore?

Honestly, I don't know, I am assuming you are on AT&T and are in the United States. Where did you get the file you used to upgrade?

You still have to apply the carrier update to get the tethering to show up. I'm on stock Beta 3 and it's no where to be found. What they were saying is if you setup the phone as new then the carrier settings will revert back to 3.5. If you set up the iPhone from a backup (a beta 2 backup) that had the carrier settings applied they will stay applied and you won't have to reapply the 5.0.
