Thinking about switching? T-mobile do pay the ETF (per line up to $650) with trading in any phone (flip phone too). Actually I have one line open with AT&T I could get a phone now and they would pay the ETF for that too. I would have a new phone to sell. I will need 3 iPhones this time.
I got to do some more math. T-Mobile is not that much of a deal if you do the Jump.

Does T-Mobile have good coverage in your area? Their coverage isn't that great in many areas.

If I switch to T-Mobile or AT&T can I unlock the phone and put in my Canadian carrier chip? I work in Canada as a US Citizen but travel back and forth across the border and want an option of one phone. Any suggestions?

Yes. An unlocked iPhone will work on any GSM carrier.
