Not sure why this bothers me but here it goes... I am used to waking up in the morning to a fresh 100% battery on my iPhone. I go to work and use the iPhone through the day. Come home use it some more and by the time I go to bed it is around 10-20% left, charge and repeat the day again. Now with iPhone 5 it gets a little tricky. I still wake up go to work use my phone, but by the time I go to bed I still have 50-60% left. No problem right? Well here is the tricky part I was getting at. For me I hate to charge overnight at this point so when I wake up again the next day, I now need to bring my charger with me just incase I get to the oh so evil red battery status at 5pm. Long story short I hate change and hate carrying my charger guess I need to buy that case that has a built in charger. Great more money out of pocket. Well played Apple well played!

Just charge it overnight as you typically would. You can't overcharge it and it won't damage it. I've always topped mine off throughout the day and let them charge overnight regardless of the percentage.

Your actually ruining your battery, as the batteries like to be topped off.

They hold less of a charge with time and usage, but I don't think keeping it topped off or running it down under 2o% every day makes a big enough difference to say he's "ruining" it. Even though I try to keep it topped off, I still end up running mine down to 10% every couple days and I've never had one of my iPhone's batteries die on me. That being said, I agree that it is optimal to keep it topped off.

Though, I have a similar problem opposite as the OP does. I get annoyed if my battery gets below 60% and I start fearing its gonna go dead.

My best advice; turn off the battery percentage number. It only leads to another OCD behavior issue.

Just plug it each night lithium batteries don't have a memory effect like the old nickel cadmium phone batteries did.

My kids used to panic because older devices claimed 2000 charge cycle life for the batteries. Even when I showed them that number would exceed the useful life (2 years in our household) of their 'toys'. Now I've finally got them plugging their iP5s in every night.

    That's exactly what I do.

Oh, Apple MapsCrap or Google Maps drain the battery horribly. Gotta remember to bring my charger when using them.

Your iPhone 5 gets better battery life and you're complaining? This is a first...

Seriously though, just charge your battery overnight and don't worry about it. You're not ruining it by charging.
