Lot's of people are having this problem. I have the same on both a 2G and 3G. Cydia (IMHO) and many of the jailbreak apps, are not yet fully 3.0/redsn0w jailbreak compatible.

I'd just give it a couple of days and all will get sorted I'm sure.

I figured it out Cydia wouldn't open because the newer version is damaged some how. I just downloaded the older version of redsnow and it works now.

When you open redsn0w, what version does it say at the top of the first screen?

Cydia should be running normal now. I used redsn0w the first day it came out (older version, I'm assuming) and was having problems with Cydia saying it couldn't reach the server. I assumed it was because of major network traffic and it seemed it was. It has been sorted out for a few days now, I'd say.

Did you install Icy? I had same issue, restored to 3.0, rebroke without Icy and now Cydia works fine for me.
no way, I don't really trust Icy and cydia has all the apps I need.
either way, I just kept trying to run cydia and it started working just fine

I've been using Icy. It works so much smoother I think. Cydia keeps freezing up on me

Cydia has given me an issue here or there on a 2G.

However, after a reboot, it sorted itself out.

I'm new to this jailbreak thing. When you re-jailbreak, does it go back to how it was when you first jail broke?

For example, I got my iPhone 3g in Nov. 08, never jail broke it, and upgraded it to 3.0 OS on Tuesday. Also did my first jailbreak after doing the 3.0 update using RedSn0w 0.72 so I could get the UltraSn0w unlock. I successfuly got UltraSn0w through Cydia, but there was this problem with Cydia. It kept saying an update was available for Cydia installer, but it could never complete installing I tried to install it. However, I installed Cydia installer using Icy, but now, my Cydia crashes when I try to open it.

Cydia keeps asking me to update. When i update midway through the process it crashes then i have to reboot. But it works fine without the update.

No issues with ICY though. Works really well.

That's exactly what was happening to me. I thought I would be smart and do the update through ICY, because it went through successfuly. Not a good idea. Now Cydia crashes when I try to open it.

has someone found a fix to this? I have 0.7 and i get a cydia crash too....

Edit:

GOT IT TO WORK!

Just connect your iPhone to iTunes, set up as new (I just called it "iPhone" and once it's sync'd, cydia will work!
