Different SIM detected

After putting a new SIM card in my phone I connected to iTunes to activate it. All went well and the phone worked fine. However almost daily at random times an error message appears which says;

"Different SIM detected" Please connect to iTunes (with the USB cable visual and access to emergency numbers only)

I duly do this and all is well again. However I can't spend the rest of my life lugging my PC around with me to hook up to iTunes every time this message appears!

Can anyone help me on this one please.

I would either get another sim or take the phone to an Apple Store if one is near you.

I assume you are using an o2 sim?
You could always download a pre-activated firmware via bittorrent or rapidshare etc...
