Do you know till I saw this thread and the whole story of this feature not working. I've never even looked at this option, much less use it?

True story.

It's 10:13 local time but my scheduled DND didn't engage until I toggled it just now. I'll check in the morning at the end of scheduled time period to see its status.

The option is cool, but I'm with you. I just switch on Airplane Mode when I decide I no longer wish to be bothered by humanity on a given day, and switch it off whenever I'm in the mood for human interaction again the next day.

Did some coder at Apple hit a 7 instead of a 1. What's the significance of January 7th?

No significance. It just takes several days to cordinate rolling out a fix. That's my best guess anyway.

I just tried resetting the date to January 9th, 2013 on my iPhone 5 and DND worked as intended so I guess January 7th will arrive and the problem will have resolved itself. The explanation for why this happened is way over my pay grade and involves how the dates are coded into the software so I guess I'll have to wait until January 7th for the problem to "Just go away by itself". LOL

A more technical explanation can be found at http://www.cultofmac.com/208217/why-Apples-do-not-disturb-feature-wont-work-properly-until-january-7/

My theory is that Apple coders got lazy thinking the world would end on 12/21/2012. No need to fix a broken code if we're all dead...
