Do you guys ever wonder what the world would be like today if Apple never existed?
For example, people laughed at them when they started working on "personal" computers for home use.

And what would the phone industry be like today if Jobs had not unveiled the iPhone at MacWorld 2007?

I often think about this and have never really came to a conclusion about what the world would be like.

What do you think?

Good thread.

I'd probably own a Linux or Android phone :(

It's a hard question to answer when there are that many if, buts and maybe's.

Since Android is a ground up ripoff of ios I doubt you'd be using it.

I spend more time thinking about where we'd be if some of the great scientists, mathematicians, astronomers, physicians ect. hadn't been born. Einstein, Franklin, Newton, Lister, Pasteur, DaVinci and Galileo to name a few.

To answer the op ? No I don't.
I also think if jobs hadn't of come up with it someone else would. Someone did just at same time he did and different. His name is Bill Gates.

We'd be typing this on DOS
Actually, Xerox created the Graphical User Interface (GUI) and Apple copied.

I don't think it would be too much different, honestly. Progress would have been slower, but I think the scientific breakthroughs all those guys made would have been done by someone else eventually. There's only one right answer in science. If we don't have it exactly right at the moment, we'll narrow it down eventually.

But when design is involved, be it art, UI, systems, etc... if you erase a big accomplishment, it probably would have never happened at all. DaVinci, for example. If he doesn't paint the Mona Lisa, would someone else have later? No way. I think this applies to Jobs in the areas of Product design, systems design (like the iTunes store), UI design. I shudder to think what our software would feel (yes, feel) like with only microsoft running things. We'd probably be using XP Service Pack 4.

Bill gates has a different vision to jobs. Nothing bill ever makes will be as polished.

Yeah, I see no reason to believe anyone would have made consumer electronics with the attention to detail that Apple has if Jobs didn't come along.

this question is easy to answer
Man on the moon was not really about how we got there but when we got there
We are a human race. This is in our nature.
I can't wait ( or getting to old to quick) soon we talk to our appliances

We'd all still be using Palm Treos and Blackberrys.

My feeling is we would be using something very different than the iPhone - and very different from what I will call the spin off'.

What exactly that is, who knows?

that may be your personal opinion but i have no problems using his products.
good, I still think its more headaches than anything. I'm glad someone came along that wasn't going to settle and kept innovating.
