Hi
I am going to be restoring my iPhone 3G soon and I was wondering whether iTunes backs up the SMS messages?

Thanks

Yes it does, during the backup phase of the sync operation.

Of course iTunes does backup the SMS messages. Like @dcom i would also mention that during the backup phase of the sync operation.

yes, iTunes does backup MMS messages. It does it during the backup phase of the sync operation - not to be confused with the syncing phase of the sync operation.

In other words, yes, MMS is absolutely backed up by iTunes when you sync your iPhone.

i hope this clears up any confusion.

SMS is backed up during the backup portion of the syncing/backup process. This is definitely an integral feature of iTunes.

Exactly. For example, if i had just sent my friend an SMS saying "Beating a dead horse," i could sync my iPhone (in order to perform the backup operation during syncing), restore my iPhone from said backup, go back to that SMS conversation on my iPhone, and see my last message "Beating a dead horse".

Even better would be sending an MMS image of a dead horse, to complement the accompanying SMS about "beating a dead horse."
