Does the iPhone 4S come with a new SIM card? In past upgrades I have moved the sim card from old phone to new phone. I'm curious how it will work this time with activating a new phone and deactivating the other one. I have my backup on iCloud ready to go as soon as FedEx shows up here at work. The only problem is that I have to use my old phone as a wifi hotspot to grab the backup off of iCloud.

Yes it should for AT&T phones. Why would you need your old one for hotspot if your new one is activated?

Without wifi, there is no way to retrieve the iCloud backup.

If you are upgrading from an iPhone 4, you can just swap the new SIM card back into it and turn on your hotspot to let the new phone do its thing.

Or you could turn iCloud off for a few minutes & backup on iTunes like you always have & set your phone up that way. I'm sure that would be faster than using a phone as a wifi hotspot. If you have an iPhone 4 you can use that sim if you have a 3GS you will have to use the new one.

I don't have iTunes installed up here at work thus the need for iCloud. It may take forever to get it over wifi at 3g speeds (mywi) though.
Why is a sim different for 3GS and 4? I do have a jailbroke 3GS

So, on a day to day basis, iCloud will not update my contacts and calendars, etc. if I am not on Wi-Fi?

Sorry I have not transferred from MobileMe yet. I thought MobileMe would update over 3G. Maybe I am mistaken.

EDIT: I just went and checked and MobileMe did update my iPhone when it was only on 3G. I can't believe that Apple would have changed that. I guess it will be "research" day today since iP4S will be here soon.

The 4 and 4S use micro SIM. Unfortunately, you will not be able to fit the micro SIM into the old SIM slot for the 3GS; you'd need an adapter that goes around the micro SIM.
