This may be an annoying trait, but it should only happen once when you upgrade to a new phone - or are you repeatedly restoring your phone for some reason?

(Note that I've never assigned any tones to contacts so I have no first-hand experience to verify this occurring during restore).

I'm not having that problem. Perhaps a silly question, but are you restoring from a backup?

I don't restore often but noticed this. It shouldnt matter if i setup as new or old phone it is taking the contacts over the cloud via mobileme

Hmm, that's weird.... I don't know what to tell you. I just switched from a V1 to a 3GS yesterday, have restored three times since (trying to get it to activate), and still have the ringtones I set to contacts when I bought the V1 two years ago :eek:

I'm not using mobileme, just syncing with iTunes, maybe that's the difference?
