First Generation iPhone

I upgraded to the iPhone 3GS today and I'm wondering if it is possible to give my first generation iPhone to a friend who uses prepaid AT&T cards to exclusively text on his phone. I inserted his SIM card and tried to activate the iPhone through iTunes, but it didn't work. Any help or suggestions regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not 100% sure, but I thought I read where ATT has done away with prepaid cards for the iPhone.
Hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong.

YES! You just need to jailbreak the iPhone then put his sim card in and it will work.

Let us know if it works with his Pay as You Go AT&T SIM. It works fine with Prepaid T-Mobile SIM's, but can be tricky with AT&T.

Everything seems to be in working order despite him using a Pay As You Go AT&T SIM card.

Does 3G work on it as well?

Joke.
