Well worth the $500!
You should also consider how well these things hold their value. I bought my 3G for $300, used it every day for a year, and now I can sell it for the same amount that I paid for it.
I would say it was worth the $500 even if it didn't hold its value so well.

i think it is definitely a worthy upgrade. For the first time I'm (almost) completely happy with my iPhone. It's not longer a love/hate relationship.

MMS when it is available will enhance it even more. If Apple ever adds multitasking abilities it will be the perfect phone.

Yeah I feel the same way...for the first time the iPhone is just about perfect! No more key features are missing. Now the only thing I could really ask for is a better battery, but I'll ALWAYS ask for that, so that doesn't count as a complaint in my book :).

I wasn't going to upgrade until Thursday night. Paid the $499 (grumble, grumble, grumble) but I love the 3G S. Significant speed improvement, better (but still not a real) camera, and lots of little refinements. Now just need to decide what to do with the 3G.

I think it's worth it as long as you don't spend too much. I sold my 3G and just about broke even on my 32GB 3G S. It fast and whatnot, but I'd I had to pay $200 put of pocket, I would have some buyers remorse.

No doubt I'm happy with my white 3GS 32GB iPhone. I've had mine for 2 weeks and hardly put it down. A great resell phone. I find it takes longer to juice up than the 3G did and i use the adapter plugged into the wall. hmmm

I have used several gadgets over the years searching for better devices and features. I am hooked on the iPhone. I look forward to improvements via FW updates and what future iPhones will bring.

$299... opened a new line. :)

Definitely worth it. Now that I think about it, I wouldn't have cared if I spent the $399 price to upgrade early, the only thing is that I wouldn't have been able to pre-order.
