my phone has been acting up a lot lately. pretty much no matter what app im in, looking at pics etc. my phone will go back to spring board. i want to format the phone, but i have a couple questions.

will all my phone numbers, addresses etc that are saved in my contacts be erased?

will all my pictures be erased?

if so, whats a easy/fast way to save all my pics and contacts to my computer?

my bite sms etc, stuff i have paid for can i just reinstall it and it all work, or do i have to buy it again?

i did a lil searching and didn't really find the answers i was looking for.

crappppppppp.

i went to restore it. it saved asked if i wanted to backup all my contacts etc. i said yes. it started updating/installing i guess. then it said it cant update. it found an error. now all my phone will display is the iTunes logo, with an arrow and usb cord..

What do i do now!?!?!?

it says..

iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.

^just click restore.

if you were on 2.2 or want to preserve your 2.28 baseband (so you can unlock), DO NOT upgrade to 2.2.1.

were you jailbroken when you tried to update/restore? you should always restore first to your stock firmware, and then update (but i wouldn't recommend updating to 2.2.1 unless you do not care about unlocking in the future).

i got on my parents computer, downloaded iTunes and got the phone restored.. nothing on the phone now, but atleast its useable lol...

and im not super savvy with iPhone crap.. so how do i just restore and not upgrade? cause when i clicked restore it asked to restore and upgrade, it was my only option IIRC.

im going to guess im running on 2.2.1 and i do not want that, cause i do want to jailbreak it again, its just the phone was acting up so i wanted to redo it..

how do i downgrade to 2.2?

well jailbreak and unlock are two different things. unlocking allows you to use it on a different carrier, jailbreaking allows you to add 3rd party apps. you can check and see what firmware you are running by going to settings/general/about/version, then it should say 2.2(5Gxx) or 2.2.1(5Gxx).

you can jailbreak 2.2.1, so if that is all you want to do just download quickpwn 2.2.5 (if you are on firmware 2.2.1) and jailbreak away.

because if you upgrade to 2.2.1 you cannot unlock your phone, which many people like to do or leave the option to do as it generally yields a higher resale value. 2.2.1 can be jailbroken but NOT unlocked. which is what i pointed out in my previous post.

ah ok.

well since i have AT&T i don't have to worry about unlocking, just jailbreaking. awesome.

now my next problem is.. i downloaded the quickpwn 2.2.5 and it says the IPSW file you selected does not match any firmware version quickpwn supports. either the ipsw file is corrupted or the firmware version is unsupported.

make sure you are actually on 2.2.1 like i outlined in this part...

you can check and see what firmware you are running by going to settings/general/about/version, then it should say 2.2(5Gxx) or 2.2.1(5Gxx).
also, if you do not have a copy of 2.2.1 firmware on the computer you are jailbreaking with, you will have to download that as well.

iPhone 3g 2.2.1 firmware:

Original iPhone 2.2.1 firmware:

I have ATT and I unlocked my phone...I know...DUMB! Now I don't have any modem firmware or bluetooth or WiFi or anything. Is there a way to restore this phone back to where I can get the phone locked again with ATT?

I have a iPhone 3G 8gb. Currently it is on firmware 2.0 It seems like the only way I can get new firmware on it is to use QuickPwn 225.

Any help is appreciated.

how did you unlock your phone using 2.0 firmware? you will have to restore to 2.0 (plug into your computer and hit restore in iTunes) download 2.2 (NOT 2.2.1) and update to 2.2, then rejailbreak using quickpwn or pwnagetool.

its a pretty simple process.
