So my IT guy (i work for a web company) was explaining me that nowadays, ALL cellphones are GPS capable. Obviously, not all of them have this feature active but however, they are able to be tracked. I don't know the reason why (my guess is that the FBI wants to be able to track anyone, anytime, but that's just me and my conspiracy theory).

Wouldn't it be awesome-o if the iPhone was able to give you directions and traffic info with a GPS (I am NOT talking about the google map directions)?

It's for 911 emergencies, but there's no GPS in iPhone.

All carriers must be able to locate a phone within a hundred yards or so, for 911.

They have two choices on how to do it... GPS on the phone, or determining the phone location from cell tower range finding.

Verizon, Sprint, Nextel, etc chose to put GPS onboard.

AT&T chose the cell tower method.
