    Hi,

Lately, I have observed fine gray horizontal lines developing towards the bottom of my iPod screen. These lines cut across the icon text "Safari, iPod, Photos, Phone" on the dock.

My iPhone has the original 2G phone hardware with the latest software updates from Apple installed.

Did anyone face this type of issue?

Any solution/ideas how to make these lines disappear? They make my phone look real ugly.

Update : I have attached a screen shot of my iPhone. Very surprisingly, the gray lines do not appear on the screen shots! Does this lead to any clues?

    Thanks in advance,
    Suddha Satta Ray

    I would say Restore.

You aren't jailbroken or anything... Wouldn't hurt...

The screen shot isn't actually your screen but what is being written to you screen. It's worth restoring to try and fix it, though it sounds like a hardware fault to me.

    Thanks for the responses.

Restoring did not help. Those ugly lines are still there!
It seems its not a software/data issue, but an unfortunately, a hardware (LCD) issue.

My only hope is to have a iPhone Hardware specialist look at it and get the LCD replaced.

Just thinking loud, is there anything called "Hardware Reset" for the iPhone? Will that help?

    Regards,

There us a guy on ModMyi forum that does repairs if you have a search.

If I come across him I'll post back.

The same thing happened to my 2G iPhone 2 days ago..intially black spot appeared and then it grew into a line.

Is there any solution provider for this problem in Mumbai/Banglore?

If you screenshot the issue and the line appears on the screenshot, it would be a software issue (highly unlikely). If you screenshot and email it to yourself, a perfect image without the problem would indicate a hardware issue of some kind that would need to be repaired.

hello guys! i've red this wall and i'm in shock with your advices to "ssray23"'s problem. so, all the way from Israel i'm coming to rescue.
i've register that site only for that message. :)
anyway, gray horizontal lines on iPhone screen is caused by a hit or drop that your poor iPhone has been through.
the gray horizontal lines that you see is dameged pixels that can't be solve by reset\ hard reset\restore or any other stupid advice that i've red here. Gray horizontal line means that, that's it. there's no way back but to go to a iPhones lab for LCD screen replacement.
you have got to do it fast as you can cause in most cases the gray liquid lines can ruin the whole iPhone (short circuit ).
if you want to fix it in a cheaper way you can just buy the LCD screen part from Ebay and go to the lab with it or fix it youself (there is plenty of "how to..." youtube videos that explain how to replace it.
hope i have helped... good luck with it...

p.s- sorry for my broken English
