Anyone know how to retrieve a passcode from an original iPad? My son has been using my wife's iPad and has put a passcode on it which he refuses to reveal.

This iPad was restored a couple weeks ago to factory settings so no backups in iTunes or anything I don't believe.

Is iCloud Find My iPhone turned on? So it's never been synced with iTunes on your computer?

Will doing this log him out of iMessages. That is apparently where he has something to hide because he is insisting on being allowed to sign out of that before giving it up.

    He is 13.

No longer necessary. Younger siblings are always a good resource.

I would recommend you take a look at some MDM solutions. A lot of businesses use it but it makes it quite handy to remotely remove a passcode lock without having to wipe the device. I know some families that use it for their kids' devices, too. Check out Bushel, it's free up to 3 devices. Also I'd recommend you take a look at Apple Configurator 2, a free app in the Mac App Store to better prepare yourself for the unknown future~
