so my damn phone fell out my pocket today sorry for the langauge lol.

so here are my options..
1. go to Apple replace the screen for 150.
2. report it to my insurance, this will be my 2nd claim as i had a problem with a previous phone before. being my 2nd claim they will issue a new phone but cancel my insurance and i can be eligible again in 12 months. cost would be 200 if im not mistaken.
3. use the upgrade on my line wait it out and get the iPhone 5s or c, for whatever the upgrade price is.

I think option 3 is worth considering, but that all depends upon the price. Either way, it's going to cost you $150. Your iPhone 5 has value, that is without a cracked screen. I'm guessing your not eligible for a full subsidy, so at best you're looking at $400 for an iPhone 5s.

If it were me, I'd say eat the $150. Use the iPhone for the next few months (in a case:)) and continue to work away at your commitment. When it's cheaper to upgrade, your iPhone 5 won't be damaged and the resale value should cover your cost of moving to a new phone.

I'd sell it with a cracked screen. You should be able to get about $250 for it. Then I'd take that $250 and use it towards a 5S, which you can get for $450 through AT&T if you're eligible for partial subsidy.

Pay $99 for Apple Care, get it fixed, and keep it. It's the cheapest solution. And Apple Care will cover the phone for up to two years.

That would be like waiting to buy health insurance until after one has cancer. Good luck in either case.

If you like the phone, spend $150. If you want a new 5c or 5s do as Europa said and sell it for up to $250.

  • iPhone 5S :
    16GB

    iPhone 5S : 32GB

    iPhone 5S : 64GB

  • $199.00

    $299.00

i didn't use any upgrade to get my 5. it was given to me as a replacement for my 4s through inusurance. those are the results i get from using Apples upgrade eligibity site

It looks like you're eligible for the full discount. It's $199 for a 16 GB.

It doesn't work like that. You can't buy AppleCare+ after the fact.
I know it doesn't "officially" work that way, but ok ow of enough occasions where it did work that way to tell me that it can happen. For $99, your phone gets fixed, Apple has a happy customer, and one who will likely buy AppleCare again on a future product.

Apple sells you a new screen for $150. That makes them even happier.
