A little more detail might help. Does your BT show as being on in your status bar? What are you trying to pair? Does your BT discover your device in BT settings?

I don't understand. Your iPhone 4 pairs with your 3GS? That doesn't make sense. What is the problem? Do you see your BT device in the BT settings on your iPhone? What device is it? A headset?

If you are trying to use Bluetooth to connect a 3GS to an iPhone 4 to transfer media, you can't do that on a stock iPhone due to Apple's restrictions. You'll have limited capabilities (contacts and pictures) with apps like Bump, but you'll have to jailbreak and install iFile if you want full media transfer capabilities (songs and videos) via Bluetooth.

If that's not what you're trying to achieve, please elaborate as up10ad said.

I agree! There's really some limitations if you want to transfer files from iPhone 4 to 3Gs. I tried that before and it wont work.
