Say this over at iPhonefreakz . Anyone hear it on theirs? I can hear it on mine.

High-Frequency Tone From iPhone 3GS?
“Are you enjoying your brand new iPhone 3G S? Did you get a 16GB or a 32GB? Well, that won’t matter if people are experiencing what we are. There seems to be a problem with sound files on the 3G S and the result after they’re triggered. After they are done playing — like the unlock sound, SMS sound, for instance — the iPhone emits a high-frequency tone. No, we’re not kidding. Something pretty high around 15KHz. We’ve confirmed this isn’t a local isolated issue with our phone, and since some people can’t hear these types of high-pitched tones, yours might produce it yet you’d never notice.
We’re 99% sure it’s software related because if you set the phone to vibrate, big surprise, no high-pitched tone. So, anyone out there experiencing this? It’s amazing this was skipped over in the many reviews published, but oh well. Hopefully Apple fixes it soon because this is kind of painful and pretty outrageous. Hit us up and let us know!”

I can hear 15Khz fine, and mine isn't doing it.

Yep I hear this sound quite often when it's quiet. I really hope they fix this.

Mine does it, I noticed last night when I got done playing music. When I paused and exited the iPod, it played the sound for about a minute or so afterwards. Didn't go away when I switched to vibrate though.

OK, I can hear it if I put the phone to my head - but only just.

It seems that every 3GS emits the tone for a few seconds after the "lock" sound plays. Others emit it more constantly, or after other sounds. If you lock your iPhone (with sounds enabled) and hold it up to your ear, you will most definitely hear it.

I hear it, but it's very quiet and a non-issue in my book.

I have never been able to hear it on my 32GB. For the people that hear it do you have a 16GB or 32GB?

32. I hear it most when recording video. In fact, if you record silence with the video recorder and play it back full blast, you'll probably hear the whine.

Nope, through video recording or voice memos I cannot produce a whining sound even with it turned all the way up. I hope it is something they can fix with an update.

"Luckily" I can't hear tones that high, but my wife, dog and kids will be pretty upset with me! My 3G S should arrive next week, I'll see who leaves the room when I'm using it.
