How do I update my software to 5.1 without the update option. I hit general then about and that's where it ends. My friends 4.0 is running on 4.3.5 wow. Thanks.

The software update option should come up when you sync with iTunes on your pc.

My phone has what you said but the one I'm trying to update doesn't give me that option. I hit settings, general but software update doesn't come up. I don't know.

The over-the-air software update option is only available for iOS 5.0 or higher. For anything before you'll have to use iTunes.

The only way that you'll be able to update your phone is through iTunes. Once you updated to 5.0+, you will then be able to use the OTA updating. Until then, iTunes all the way. (y)
