My friend who works at AT&T say it will be good for me since I like to change phone every year. My thought/question is will I have paid the full price of the phone by the time the 12-20 month is up for the upgrade. What you all think?

I believe for the monthly fee, you will be able to upgrade every year for free.

That's what I was told at least.

No. I would rather sell my device and pay the balance than buy a phone on credit.

At a glance it looks like another ripoff plan by AT&T.

Exactly. A ripoff that will be feed on the need for instant gratification. For me the fee outweighs the cost of selling my current device and paying the difference.

    iPhones got good resell value
But other devices not so much.
    It's like a lease.
    The way I see it
1 year time on next is 1/2 phone paid (with the phone not damaged)
    $325
After 1 year contract price is $199 + early upgrade fee (I am not certain how much that is?)
Buy the phone $649 unlocked and sell when ever

I'd rather wait 6 months then get a partial update which is like $450 then I sell my.previous model for $350 on craigslist which makes the new model that was previously $450 now $100 which to me is cheaper then art next program and better I do this every time Apple releases a new phone

Well I suckered AT&T into letting me start Next with my two lines. I shouldn't be eligible for the program until September 2014 (bought two iPhone 5s on iDay 2012), but I threatened to leave them and a CSR hooked me up. I know my monthly payment will be waaaay higher, but I don't mind that if I can be contract free and upgrade every year without hassle. I will sell my current 5 (and my wife's) and use the money towards the new phones...

Anyone else going to use this for the 5S?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe if you use NEXT to get a device you have to turn that device back in when u upgrade to a new device

Yes, you are correct on having to trade in the device:

I know, you never actually "own" the device unless you pay it off, so technically AT&T is benefitting from high iPhone value when you trade it in every year...

I'm actually considering dropping AT&T completely and moving to T-Mobile. Doing some research as we speak...

oh wow... you pay a monthly fee AND you have to turn in your current phone (can't sell it for cash). that blows

Unless you pay it off early and you're basically contract free... I'm still thinking about Next, but leaning towards switching to T Mobile...
