I have an iPhone 3GS with firmware iOS 5.1.1

I haven't jailbreak my phone yet. Just waiting for the untethered 5.1.1 jailbreak. I am new to this, so I may not be knowing exact terms used in jailbreaking.

Just wanted to know in short that what item or softwares will be needed in jailbreaking my iPhone 3GS?

Waiting for a decent reply! ;)

There is currently now un-tethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.1.1 (unless you pay for the commercial jailbreak). Absinthe 2.0 should be out by Friday. Absinthe is the tool you'll use to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS.

Te initial release of Absinthe was by far the easiest I've ever used. Download to your computer, plug in your iPhone, runnthe program and confirm on device. I think the entire process took 10 minutes. Hopefully that elegant simplicity carries over for the latest version....

You must have missed Jailbreakme.com, which was released in the fall of 2010. That was the easiest I've ever used. It was only two steps: go to the jailbreakme.com website on the phone and then slide to jailbreak. But you're right, Absinthe is very easy to use.

You really expect me to remember back THAT far?
As always, Mindi keeping me on my toes.

I do recall using that a few times back in the good 'ol days.
How killer would that be if the next release of Absinthe had that functionality?

It would be very killer if it had that functionality. It would eliminate a lot of how to questions.

It would also likely open up JB'ing to users who are daunted by the perceived complexity of the process.

Exactly! The process to Jailbreak is not difficult, but if you haven't done it then you may be nervous to do it! Jailbreakme.com would be awesome to have again.

I hope the OP comes back, now that Absinthe 2.0.1 is out. It's easy as pie to jailbreak.
