How to update a jailbroken phone

#1
I'm sorry if this has been covered but I could not find a clear answer.

If my phone is jb and then later I want to update to a new version what is the process? Would I have to restore to factory before updating? Or just update and then do a new jb?

Thanks for your help.

I would restore as new. By doing this, you rid the phone of all traces of the JB.

Backup your jailbreak apps, restore as new, upgrade, re-jailbreak, re-install jailbreak apps.

Remember to save all your other files, mainly pics if they're important.

Also had another noob question...Is there anything that I have to do before the jb (on iPhone4)? Or when I run the jailbreak, does it automatically save the blobs (i think)?
