Hasn't been necessary for me, heck I just sync more often and shuffle my music around...not really an issue since I charge via my computer every night. I have 4GB of empty space and have more apps than I do music. If you or your family is going to keep your entire library and a few movies on the phones, yeah go for more space...if not...don't.

First off welcome to EIC you'll love this place it will be tons of help with your iPhones

Depends on if any of you will be putting movies on your iPhones or how large you library is. I Have the movie 21 , pineApple express and disk one of family guy season 1 on my iPhone and about 500 songs and i have about 8-9 gb left .

Now if your music library is thousands of songs and your going to load them all, the 16 is the way to go.

My wife and I went ahead and got the 16 just to make sure we would always have enough space

fyi Most of the movies i have ripped and put on my iPhone are 600Mb - 1GB

How many songs do you have and do you want them all on there? I wanted all my music with me so I got the 16GB. I have over 1400 songs, 4 movies, 30 video podcasts and like 10 hour long podcasts, and about 30 apps. I still have 2 gigs free.

its how you plan on using it I guess.....I have an ipod classic 80Gb in my car with over 30Gbs of music on it and growing. But I don't need anywhere near that much on my phone so I went with the 8gig. I Uploaded about 400 songs, have maybe 25 podcasts, and 5-6 pages of apps and still have 4 gigs free. Movies and songs take up the most space so it depends on how you use it. Plus.....the new iPhone is schedueled to come out in the summer which you might want to consider. If you get 16's now.....you might want to upgrade in a few months so...

That's a very subjective question, and the answer is, it depends. I need all the space I can get, so I will always get the largest model offered. I have over 90GB of music, and tend to keep 1.5GB free for movie rentals when I'm traveling. My girlfriend doesn't have much music and only has the 8GB and that suits her fine.

I have always advised people to buy as much memory as you can afford. You may not know now what you will want on your iPhone until you have been using it. I do not have a ton of songs so I could have gone with the 8mg, but just looked at it the other day and I am over the 8mg with the music, and work files I keep on it, and some tv shows etc.

yeah... just keep asking... $100... 8 more GB... $100... 8 more GB. Whichever makes your face grimace when you think about giving it up is what you go with.

8 I have to many movies and music to try and throw it on a 16 or 32. Makes more sense to enjoy setting up my sound track for the next day

Congrats....
I have the 16, but I always tell people I'd probably never fill up an 8, let alone a 16.

I have a 1st generation iPhone with only 4GB. I currently have about 350 songs on it, TCM The Beginning, and the Chicago Bulls 5th Championship Season video on it, with about 40MB to spare. I desperately want more GB, even considered buying a 16GB 3G, but I am opting to wait til this summer in hopes of a 32GB!
