If you are unlocked (not using AT&T as your carrier) then yes 1.1.3 will lock your phone as it will see an incorrect sim. If you want to experience a sense of a update you can always upgrade to 1.1.2 which has many more features than 1.0.2 and still use it unlocked by following this guide http://forums.everythingicafe.com/forums/iphone-jailbreak/go-from-unlocked-1-1-1-to-unlocked-1-1-2-a-18267.html.

It says you must be on 1.1.1 to go to 1.1.2. I am not an expert and do not know if you can do the same from 1.0.2 to 1.1.2 but ask there and they should help.

What if he is not unlocked, just jaibroken? I have 1.1.2, jailbroken, and I am wondering the same thing. Mine is not unlocked though. Do I just do a restore to 1.1.1? Do I do anything special, or just restore with iTunes holding down ctrl or whatever it was that lets me choose the firmware of my computer?

If you are just jailbroken you can just do a restore and you will be fine.

Are you on 7.6 iTunes, you can do a restore as well.

I'm still an original 1.0.0. iPhone and haven't installed any updates on my phone or iTunes. If I decide to upgrade to 1.1.3. I should be ok doing a restore to 1.0.0. then installing the 1.1.3 on iTunes an my phone.....right?

Wow, you need this update, there is so much things fixed etc.

Just open iTunes, go to help, then click "check for Updates" this will then get the 7.6 iTunes. Run the software, reboot your cpu, then dock the phone, and click the check for update button of the summary panel.

I've updated iTunes to 7.6, but none of the iPhone updates. I hadn't upgraded because none of the "new features" really excited me enough to lose my hacks. I know eventually it was able to be hacked with the new updates but it seemed like too much of a hassle to lose everything re-jailbreak and re-install all the 3rd party apps I already had... BUT with 1.1.3 it seems well worth it.
So I won't have to restore to 1.0.0. before upgrading to 1.1.3.?

I just want to make sure I do this right. I need to do a RESTORE, then UPDATE. Right? I can't just update from a jailbroken 1.1.2? Can I RESTORE to 1.1.1, then UPDATE to 1.1.3? Or do I need to get 1.1.2 from somewhere? If so, where can I get it?
Thanks

It does not matter at what firmware you restore at, it will restore and wipe your apps out, and make your phone like original. So just do it at the 1.1.3

Anyway they will have a jailbreak solution for 1.1.3 within a week.

You just need to do a restore.

what iTunes do you have right now? What ever it is the restore to that.

If you have the 7.6 iTunes then just dock the jailbroken phone and hit RESTORE do not hit update.

So I can Restore right to 1.1.3? I was thinking I had to restore to an older version first.

Yep, I had a Jailbroken 1.1.2, I just hit restore + update + backup. Clean install, syncing music / photos now.

I have iTunes 7.5 BTW, if that matters.

what do you mean by restore + update + backup? Are those options for doing a restore. Or different steps to take?

how do i upgrade unlocked iPhone 1.0.2 to 2.0?

I just exchanged my blackberry pearl with a friend who had unlocked iPhone running on 1.0.2 (i'm on t-mobile USA). I want to update the phone to preferrably 2.0, (or at the least 1.1.4). Can anyone here please tell me the steps? This is more or less the first time i'm even touching iPhone...so i'm bit nervous.

What i understand from here as well as other sites i have read, i need to perform a restore to 2.0 (which will lock my phone) using iTunes 7.6 and then use pwnage to unlock it? is this correct? will my phone work as a phone and will it access edge network if i do this?

Thanks....appreciate the help.
