I recently got an exchanged, does this carry my warranty for another year?

It only carries it for the 1 year of the 1st iPhone, like naps said. But if you warranty it on the 364th day your warranty will be extended for 90 day.

Also, if you exchange it and don't activate it, I think your buyer will have a warranty for a full year.

Pretty close. From Apple's official warranty statement:

"A replacement product or part, including a user-installable part that has been installed in accordance with instructions provided by Apple, assumes the remaining warranty of the original product or ninety (90) days from the date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer coverage for you."
