Why? What exactly are you missing out on by not having push notification? I am not trying to be sarcastic, I just want to understand why this issue would want to make you run away from the iPhone?

For applications that could run in the background, AIM for example, that are always running and when someone send you a message it alerts you.

All I would really want is PUSH email for Gmail (without going through nuevasync).

Even without push, mms, copy & paste the iPhone is still a much better device than the AT&T Fuze. However, if you really must have instant messaging that "just works" than perhaps making a device switch is the right decision. Personally, I would recommend holding out until the 2.2 update. You never know what Apple may be secretly putting in there.
