If I get new iPhone 3G can I still use my old one as a "spare" if battery dies etc.?

I can't see why not since it's probably just a SIM card swap but I'd appreciate answers from those with more knowledge than me.

You'd need to unlock your V1 or it won't accept the SIM. Just plug 'er in to your computer and run ZiPhone on it, takes 1 minute.

I read something today that you'll be able to unbrick the old iPhone and essentially use it as an iPod, but that may not be what you're looking for.

you know ive wondered this too.. I think they should let you be able to use the old one without having to unlock it seeing as many people already have the v1.

Soo...what is this "tool" thats coming with it?
Well they haven't shown us just yet, but I would guess that it looks similar to a plastic thumb tack only it will be Apple quality. I can't wait to see the first post pop up on the board about the quality of the sim card tool that came with their new iPhone 3G.

There will surely be third-party replacement options for that SIM extraction tool, also.

Monster will likely make one that costs $49.99.
