Today all of a sudden all my messages are going through as Text messages instead of iMessage to my friend with an iPhone.

What's the deal? Is the network messed up?

Yes. This was a known outage though. They were taking it down today trying to fix something but expected it to last a while. Meaning apple was taking down the servers.
They don't tell the customers because we would be outraged. They take the servers down once a week a minimum. It happens normally 11-3 pst. To not mess with the sleeping east coasters. By market there are more east coast day to day iMessage users than pst and mst combined.

Source? Do you mean 2300-0300 EST? I use iMessages in the middle of the night nearly every night and I've never had a problem at night. This outage today is affecting me as well as the one last month, but both were in the daytime.

No big deal. Just thought it was something wrong with my equipment. No blood. :p

Glad I looked here first, was about to factory restore my phone!!
I found it kinda weird when my phone wouldn't even recognize my apple ID..

I turned iMessage off and can send and receive texts with everyone but my daughter. She also has an iPhone and can receive my texts but I cannot receive hers. Any advice?

It's back. It went down for me and my friend in Arizona who talk constantly through iMessage. Luckily, we had texts to keep us going, but it seems to be up and running again.

Every carrier gets notified ahead of time so it's customers service agents have a heads up and know how to deal with calls about it.
My time frame stated is for the regular monthly maintenance that occurs typically on the first Sunday of the month.
This outage was "to repair a known problem"

I've got a 'few' things I need fixed... Could I get you to call them for me?

    Mines back... Ontario here.

Thanks to Naps telling them who he was, mine is now back.

    I'm so excited.

Do you guys get a lot of people calling Sprint (instead of Apple) asking why iMessages is down? That's simultaneously funny and sad.

I would say 95% of iPhone users call their carrier first.

We often fail to remember that us members here(and all forums) are a very small percentage (less than 1%) of iPhone users.
While we are informed most aren't.
I would say that my guys take 20-25 calls a day (3%) about why my text messages are blue.
