I keep getting invalid sender on my iPhone 3G. I use Comcast email and I can receive mail, but I can't send it unless i"m at home. I remember putting my home network in the phone, but why would it be looking for that network when I'm away from home?

Try the following: settings-general-reset-reset network settings.
I should ask if you have a stock phone or jailbroke? If stock try either the above and/or a hard reset.

Not sure of you have fixed this or not but if you have not check this link. I was having the same problem as you and this fixed it. As I suspected it was just an smtp setting.
