This doesn't come as a big surprise, but iOS 8.0.1 is out. There have been plenty of bugs in the public release of iOS 8. That's what happens when you're racing to meet deadlines created by hardware releases. So, you can bet Apple has been working the past few weeks to squash assorted bugs.

UPDATE: Until notified, I would not recommend updating. There are numerous reports that it breaks cell phone service and Touch ID.

Change log:
  • Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store
  • Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode
  • Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library
  • Improves the reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages
  • Better support of Ask To Buy for Family Sharing for In-App Purchases
  • Fixes an issue where ringtones were sometimes not restored from iCloud backups
  • Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and videos from Safari

The first such release is available now. iOS 8.0.1 is available OTA.

I had an outrageous bill from AT&T this last billing cycle that ended on 9/23. I updated to iOS 8 when it was released and I usually only use 2.5 GB out of my 3GB of data. However, after the update I ended up going to 5GB. I did nothing out of the ordinary. I wonder if it was from the text messages. How do I find out and would AT&T reimburse me or waive the charge?

Calling them would be the best idea, or looking at your usage.

Ok, I wouldn't update if I were you all. Now my top left of status bar says Searching even after restarting. I can't make phone calls.

Friend says his is working fine.

I'll try a hard reset soon, I'm on Wifi so IDK. Hard reset didn't help.

iDownloadBlog has this to say about 8.0.1:

Several of their readers can confirm this.

Story here.

Sad that Apple are having so many misfires of late. Perhaps I should consider myself fortunate not to have an iPhone 6 Plus in my possession yet. I'm trying not to complain too much about Apple's failures to satisfy their customer base, but this is proving difficult, considering they had so much available cash to give everyone a free U2 album. Yes, I like the album. It's awesome, don't get me wrong. But also, yes, I would have gladly purchased it myself if doing so would have allowed Apple to better focus on their iPhone 6 and iOS 8 issues—$100,000,000 could have bought a lot of man-hours of work on perfecting iOS 8.

Shucks....:/

I should have waited, but I love updating.

Why mee?? I love being one of the first to update.
Well, sometimes it pays to wait. I am just like you, I love updating my iPhone's OS—with a fiery passion. But, just like your signature reads, "You live, you learn."

Swallow it down, (what a jagged little update)
It feels so bad (messing up your iPhone)

... Wait until the dust settles
