Apple today announced the developer beta of iOS 9 would be available today. Users can sign up to take part in the public beta, happening in July. iOS 9 will release later this fall and will be free. The same devices eligible for iOS 8, are eligible to upgrade to iOS 9. In addition, there have been improvements to the OTA install, making it a much slimmer release. This should help increase adoption.

Split-screen on the iPad requires an iPad Air 2. That's likely due to the need for more RAM.

Other big features in iOS 9:
    • Siri as a proactive assistant
    • Apple Pay: Now supports loyalty cards
    • Passbook is now Wallet
    • Improved spotlight search that will deliver content, recent apps and recent contacts. Search is now available by swiping right.
    • A vastly improved Notes app
    • New QuickType keyboard
    • Improved Maps
    • Newsstand is gone, replaced by News. It's Apple's version of Flipboard.
    • Power reserve mode to extend battery life by up to 3 hours
    • Improvements to Car Play

And of course, iOS 9 comes with new wallpaper. How could I forget?

    I'll have 2 apps named Wallet. :p

I will absolutely love possibly knowing who is calling me if I don't recognize the number but my email does.

I've had the San Francisco/Apple Watch system font on my iPhone for a while now. I'm keeping my jailbreak. However, I'll probably install the beta on my iPad to test it.

How do you like the font change? That's also a change in El Capitan, if I'm correct.

It looks as if Apple wants me to stop using the iPhone. The San Francisco font is even harder for me to read. That, and the penchant for app developers to use low-contrast thin fonts on white backgrounds (I've sure Jony Ive thinks this is oh so stylish) is killing my enjoyment of the phone. I'm tired of straining my eyes to read on this damned thing.

I loved seeing the split screen, and also the picture in picture feature for viewing videos while working in other apps.(Althought I'm likely beginning a boycott of ESPN after the ESPYs if they follow through with their plans to give the Arthur Ashe "Courage" award to Bruce Jenner. That's a farce.)

It's a pretty nice looking font. I'm very picky with system fonts and this one has seal of approval. They have to be mainstream and easy to read. It will be a nice change for iOS 9 and OS X.

I like being able to see who's calling as well. When is it to be released? I'd paid for the beta in the past but not now.

I'm not sold on music or connect. Whatever it's called

Public beta for iOS 9 will be available in July. I so cannot wait to see how well the seeing who is calling me works. Of course it will only work if it can locate any information in emails etc. The public beta is free as long as you register online. What did you pay for?

I'm aware of that. I don't code or wouldn't create an app so no need to pay 99

Did Apple say Newstand was gone? News and Newstand seem to be two different things. In Newstand one purchases and downloads entire magazines through a subscription, the News app on the other hand is a collection of articles for multiple news sources. Neither fees nor charges for News were mentioned indefinite. Re/code reported that News is replacing Newstand, not Apple.
