Any differences? Is there a need to upgrade to the "official"?

No, the GM is the same. You can stay on it.

I always wondered, how does someone who has a GM or developers edition upgrade to the real version because isn't it still going to read as iOS7 thereforee not inform the developer a new version is available?

yeah, if you're on the GM and want to "update" to the official release, you have to restore in iTunes. But there's really no reason to.

1. Back up in iTunes.
2. Restore to iOS 7.
3. Apply your backup when it asks if you want to use it.

so trying to d/l 11.1 iTunes and i got an error 102 on my computer.

Apparently it states 102 is too old for this rom as the error reasoning.

Does this mean I need a new computer or something now?

Yes they fixed a few things with the music player and when changing from landscape to portrait. Another update will come in a few days. You don't have to update.
