I'm weighing my options on which I should get my Son for christmas. Walmart is offering the iPad 2 for $399 on black friday with a $75 gift card so that brings the price to about the same as the iPad Mini. I have the iPad 3 and he uses that currently so I'm looking to get my iPad back. I think the obvious better deal is the iPad 2 but I've been wanting to get my hands on the iPad Mini since it came out! What are some of the pros and cons that I'm not thinking of?

If your son is in the grade-school range, I'd think the smaller size and weight of an iPad Mini would be a huge benefit over the 2.

My son is in preschool, and up to this point hasn't been taking my iPad anywhere with him because of his age and the fact that its mine. I'm thinking of going with the 2 as I know he can handle it fine because he handles my 3 fine. Everyone knows Apple stops supporting outdated devices with updates eventually and I'm concerned that may be the case with the iPad 2. I'm sure that the iPad mini will be supported for a few more years as it just came out.

If I'm not mistaken, the Mini has better cameras. Not that that would matter to a pre-schooler.
The Mini hasn't left my side since I got it. The iPad 2... collecting dust.

By the way, Hinezy: were you ever on a motorcycle forum?

F0r your age child I would think 2 .There are some great cases which should keep the iPad save as well.
The iPad 2 is widely adapted in schools and education. Also why did they keep the 2 and not the 3? If they had no intend to support it any further ?
I think the 2 will be around for quiet some time. Specially as they get a little less in price. More schools will be thinking of using them on a day to day basis.
As he get's older you see pocket size device will be what you want. LOL

Thanks everyone for the input. I'm pretty much set on the iPad 2! To a kid bigger is always better. He doesn't even touch his iPod touch! We're going to sell it to help offset the price a little more.
